Property Owner is not available for Database

Some times when we right click on database in SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) and tries to look into the database properties, we are not able to open the property window. Rather we get following error message:-

Property Owner is not available for Database ‘[test_db]’. This property may not exist for this object, or may not be retrievable due to insufficient access rights. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo)

Complete error message will be something like :-

TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio
——————————
Cannot show requested dialog.
——————————
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Cannot show requested dialog. (SqlMgmt)
——————————
Property Owner is not available for Database ‘[test_db]’. This property may not exist for this object, or may not be retrievable due to insufficient access rights. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo)

Analysis:-
We get this error because for some reason the owner of tis database is NULL. Mostly it happens when the owner of this database was some user account (windows user and having access in SQL Server through active directory group) and now that id is deleted.

Solution:-
Open a new query window and run the below query to make ‘sa’ as the owner of this database

use [test_db]
go
exec sp_changedbowner ‘sa’
go

Now try to open the property window of this database. It will open without issues.
