Netezza – How to failover a disk in TwinFin box

Steps to failover a disk in TwinFin applicance:

1) If we have to failover a disk id# 1514, then first run below command to check its in which SPA.

nzds -id 1514 -detail

2) Make sure we have a spare disk available in that SPA before we failover a disk.

nzhw show -spa 1 | grep -i spare
MM 1025 spa1.mm2 Spare Ok
Disk 1536 spa1.diskEncl4.disk12 Spare Ok
Disk 1667 spa1.diskEncl1.disk9 Spare Ok

3) Also make sure system is ideal or minimally used to avoid performance issue during the time regen runs after failover.

nzstats -type query

4) Now, to failover disk 1514 run below command:

nzhw failover -id 1514
Are you sure you want to proceed (y|n)? [n] y

5) To check the regen status run below command:

nzds show -regenstatus -detail

6) You can see the disk role is now showing failed and the new disk which will takeover is in Assigned role.

7) To check regen status run below command:

nzds show -regenstatus -detail

8) Once regen is complete you will see no output for above command and also the status of the DISK 1667 will change from Assigned to Active.

9) Open a case with IBM to replace the failed disk.
