How to enable Latin 9 character set in Teradata?

When you migrate from Netezza (default character set is Latin 9) to Teradata (default character set is Latin) you may see some issues

when you have some Latin 9 specific data. Although you can create a database or table to use different character set but that

character set have to be enabled first before you can use it and Latin9 is disabled by default.

Here are the steps that you can follow to confirm if its disabled and how to enable it:
1) RUn below sql and look for output Install Flag column for LATIN9_0A Character set, If its N then its disabled.

Select CharSetName,CharSetId,InstallFlag from dbc.CharTranslationsV order by 2;

Output:
….
…..
LATIN1252_3A0,123,N
LATIN1252_0A,124,N
LATIN9_0A,125,N
LATIN1_0A,126,N

2) To enable just run below update query and restart Teradata database

update dbc.CharTranslationsV set InstallFlag=’Y’ where CharSetId in(123,124,125,126);

How to check if Netezza appliance is having a topology issue?

To check if there is a topology in-balance in your Netezza system just run the below command and look for WARNING at the end of the output.

This command will just pull all the info related to topology and give a detailed output for each SPA followed by a summary of warnings at the end.

COMMAND:
nzds show -topology

OUTPUT:
Here is what to look for in the output.. In my expamle I found 13 warnings all on SPA 4.

In order to fix this issue we have to first make sure there is no failed SPA in the system. If there is any then kindly get that fixed first and after that just issue below command to fix this issue or nzstop/nzstart can also take care of this issue.
